Insurance Company Operations — 3 hrs. Students in CTS can develop competence and confidence in understanding and using existing technologies and in creating solutions to technological problems. Links to post-secondary educational institutions, employers, industry groups and other stakeholders can be included within a pathway. Advanced Financial Management — 3 hrs. Personal Wealth Management — 3 hrs. Real Estate Finance — 3 hrs. Topics include working capital management, capital budgeting, financial theory, and various appropriate analytical tools. Risk Management and Insurance — 3 hrs. Includes descriptive analysis of various investment media, techniques of value analysis, and basic topics in portfolio management. Research — hrs.

Financial Information Systems and Analysis — 3 hrs. Offered Fall, Winter. All of these areas include a variety of occupations that require more or less education. Corporate Finance — 3 hrs. Introductory courses prepare students for further experiences in the cluster, pathway or occupational area. Examination of various aspects of financial management through discussions of specific topics. International Financial Management — 3 hrs.

In-depth study of management issues unique to insurance operations and companies from a functional perspective. Current trends indicate that the majority of new jobs today and in the future will require some form of post-secondary education and that the completion of senior high school will no longer be sufficient.
The needs of these students vary greatly from one individual to the next and may range from physical adaptations to the environment or equipment, to arranging for special testing accommodations. Topics include working capital management, capital budgeting, financial theory, and financial modeling.As students become more focused, they examine options for occupations based on the National Occupational Classification. Securities Analysis — 3 hrs. Pathways should be designed to prepare students to transition successfully from senior high school to post-secondary education or to employment in an occupational area. Restriction s : Enrollment limited to students in the School of Business. Topics include working capital management, capital budgeting, financial theory, and various appropriate analytical tools. Introductory courses prepare students for further experiences in the cluster, pathway or occupational area. Many of these new arrivals become students in Alberta schools, yet their knowledge of English or French may be minimal. Individual Readings — hrs. These pathways will address the specific skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a full range of career opportunities, including technical and professional career specialties. Rationale CTS courses enable students to make reasoned and effective career decisions and target efforts to meet their goals. Teachers and instructors should be aware of the individual needs of their students and adapt their instruction and programming accordingly. Some courses require one or more prerequisites, which are essential for maintaining safety standards, appropriate instructional sequence and articulation with post-secondary programs.
